16 Jul Neither Hail, Nor Rain, Nor Wind Could Stop Them in Switzerland
Six-time Ironman Switzerland winner Ronnie Schildknecht managed a race best bike with a crash, slipping and sliding in wet conditions and merely described it as something the Tour riders experience every day. (At least there were no carpet tacks on the road at Ironman today!) Although the rainy dissipated during the run, Schildknecht’s dominating performance was over 15 minutes over compatriots Jan Van Berkel and nearly 25 minutes over Mathia Hecht (who also suffered a puncture in the rainy conditions).
Former Team TBB teammates Hungarian Erika Csomor and Bella Bayliss worked together on the bike to catch Simone Brandli, but it was former duathlon champion Csomor who held on for the win. Bayliss took a very satisfying 2nd and Brandli held on for third. After leaving Team TBB, Csomor has had mixed results and this win in Switzerland shows she is ready to get in the game in Kona.
